LOTV Girl

Long time and no posts from me. Hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and managed a bit of downtime/crafting time after all the hectic rush to be ready for the big day. We now have New Year to look forward to although we don't particularly celebrate in our house. DH and I prefer to stay at home and watch Jools' Hootenanny complete with non-alcoholic fizz. Such party animals!!

This was a quick make using a Papermania scalloped edge card blank and one of my favourite LOTV die-cut squares.

Kick Stand Card

Here is my first attempt at a Kick-Stand card. I really liked this style of card when I saw it on Bev Rochester's fantastic blog and I've added a link to her post  HERE  which includes a video tutorial.

I'm also loving my new Memory Box die which is so intricate but well worth the effort. Just had to use it twice!!  I managed to salvage the LOTV image from a previous project that didn't work out and have 'hidden the join' by framing it with Labels Eight. A bit of Martha punching, some ribbon, roses and Glamour Dust to finish off.

Jules' Crafty Snippet Challenge - week 45

I thought I'd join in with Jules' Snippet Challenge again this week as I had some pieces left over from a commission card I made last week. Guess who forgot to take a photo of it before it went!

The original card was 8x8 ins which I cut from an A3 piece of card. So I was left with long thin strip of card approximately 16½  x 3¾ ins. I folded it so that the back of the card was slightly longer than the front. I then covered the front with two scraps of DP and used ribbon to hide the join - (forgot to say that I Glamour Dusted the butterflies first). Front RH edge was 'Martha-ed' and words matted and layered onto scraps of pink Bazzill. Pink leaf die-cut and pearls added.

LOTV Challenge 118 - A Sketch

Here is the card I made at the weekend for this week's Lili of the Valley challenge. I stamped the image using Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured with Promarkers. I inked the edges using a Tim Holtz distress ink - Brushed Corduroy (I need to practise more with the blending tool and foam) which I also used to stamp the sentiment straight onto the DP. Very brave for me!

JULES' CRAFTY SNIPPET CHALLENGE - WEEK 43

Evening.  Hope this has been a good weekend for you and that the extra hour has been beneficial - I know I enjoyed a lovely lie-in this morning!

So here I have an entry into Jules' Crafty Snippet Challenge - check her wonderful blog here .  This is my first time of joining in and I really enjoyed using up the 'left-overs' from a card I made yesterday for this week's LOTV challenge. Hopefully I'll blog that one tomorrow.  The two cards are very alike but I intended that as I need two male birthday cards for the 5th and 6th November. I do struggle somewhat with male cards so this worked out very well for me.

I made up three matted layers for the background from my snippets which just covered my card base. The buttons were cut using a Nellie Snellie die and I tied them with embroidery cotton remnant from my cross-stitching days. Image was coloured with Promarkers and I added Glossy Accents to the goggles and the headlights. Sentiment stamped in Memento Cocoa using magazine freebie stamps.

Birthday Robin

This commissioned card was done a little while ago and my brief was that the lady recipient likes fuschias and robins.  Luckily for me, my recently delivered issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine had some lovely My Mind's Eye freebies including this cute robin chipboard. I was a bit worried that it might look too Christmassy but I think it worked out alright.

Birthday Boy !

Here is the card I made recently for my DH's birthday. I printed off a page of Autumn Leaves backing paper from the House Mouse Inserts CD (from Joanna Sheen).  I then printed the letters for Happy Birthday and the Relax sentiment onto this sheet. The banner was cut by hand which was a little fiddly but not too bad.

Playing with my new goodies

I finally managed to get motivated and had a little play with some new goodies - hope you like the finished result. This card is for a family member celebrating their 70th birthday at the weekend. We are invited to the party!  I used Bazzill Bling purple card to mount the birds/cage on and had to use the reverse as it was the only dark purple that I had.

The heart shapes are from the smaller birdcage die in the Bird Sanctuary Shapeabilities set.

Two Birthdays

Hello - long time no posts!!  Not only did the card-making mojo go walkabout but major decorating work meant I couldn't get at my stash anyway. So, after a long break I finally got back into the swing with two birthday cards both using Lili of the Valley Die-Cut Squares:

Here's the first one which is actually green although it looks gold

Wedding

Well after a little bit of time-out I'm back with a wedding card - the second one going out to Australia -using an image from my favourite Lili of the Valley. This is one of the Big Squares which come in at 5 inches square so just right for a 'big' 8 inch square card. As you can see this is a very pink card! Lots of punches used on this one too.

LOTV Birthday

I decided to make this card using the Papertake Weekly sketch but think I'm out of time now to enter this challenge (just checked and yes, I am). It was a great sketch to follow and one that will definitely be used again. Not sure if the photo shows that the wings, skirt and seeds are all glittered. I also added wee pink gems to her floral headdress and the flowers.

Short and sweet from me today. This is a little gift tag/wallet made to present some cash in. I made a little box on the reverse for the shaped tag to slide into. I used my Martha Stewart punches for the front and started with a piece of DP that was 6.75 ins x 5 ins.

Have a Tweet Day !

Today's card has been made for the latest challenge over on the MSE board. So back to my favourite lilac again and this time with a hint of pink. I wanted to try out something I've seen on one or two blogs in the past, most notably Mandy's - A Sprinkling of Glitter - so used my Martha Stewart PATP set to make a pretty shaped card front and then decorated away! I also got to use one of my new Spellbinders dies from the recent C&C Multibuy Six Set offer. Can you believe I've had them about 10 days and only just cracked the first set open.

Seeing Double ......

Almost but not quite.....

Version 1

Version 2

This little card was made as a Thank You for the lovely Jacque from the USA.  Recently I was lucky enough to win one of her lovely blog candies and used some of the prize goodies on this card. Anyway, said card and little reciprocal gift was despatched to the USA mid-March and finally arrived with her on 31st May!  The Version 2 card was made to re-send to Jacque as I was convinced the first package had gone astray for ever.

Please do visit Jacque's blog (http://jacquesmagnolias.blogspot.com/) and say Hi. She really does some fantastic work and hers was the very first blog I read at the start of my cardmaking journey.

Good Luck !!

Here is my entry for Georgiegirl's Good Luck Challenge over on the M.S.E. board.  I was a bit lacking in inspiration so spent a while flicking through lots of my old magazines and, after cramming my head full of too many ideas, this is the end result! The most fiddly part was lining up all the butterflies and I'm still not convinced they're straight.

Red, White & Blue with a Circle

As a recent winner of the MSE Challenge it was my chance to set the next one and because this was just after the Royal Wedding I chose 'Red, White & Blue with a Circle' for the theme.  There were 16 entries and my DH picked Georgiegirl's name from the hat. This is the Congratulations card I made for her to go with her prize and as you can see I stuck to the theme! I coloured her shoes and ribbon with a Promarker to tie in with the blue card.

Wedding Card

So here is a recent commissioned make and I know I shouldn't really say this but I do just love it!!  I think it is the lovely zingy green card that makes this although it's not a colour that I'd normally have thought to use for a wedding card.  My friend had got me a couple of packs of this card from a supplies warehouse that she is able to go to and I can see that it will be used very often.  My love affair with LOTV continues of course.

Card size is 8 inch square and the embossing had to be done in two goes. It's fairly easy to line up the hearts folder but the birds & swirls won't match up so well, hence the flower treatment in the centre.

This is the first of two cards (second one will be blogged soon) and both are going out to Australia. LOL, I'm going global!!

Thank You

Here's a little thank you card I made for Caroline from the MSE board. I was recently the lucky winner of her sketch challenge and she very kindly sent me some lovely crafting goodies. I was able to use some of the card candy on her thank you card.

The flower doily was die-cut using my new Nellies set and it's good value for money as there's seven pieces in the set including a sweet little button.

Birthday Blue

Hello, Thursday already! It really doesn't seem almost a week since the Royal Wedding does it? Maybe it's just me but the weeks really seem to be flying by.

Today's card was made for a card-making friend - so no pressure there then, LOL!  I decided to use the lovely Edwardian Lady papers again and tried some different colours to my favourite lilac. The green ribbon was part of my candy win from the U.S.A. - thank you Jacque.

LOTV Wedding Card

So, this is the first wedding card I've made and have to say that I'm pleased with how it turned out. I made my own 8 x 8 inch card blank and also made a box for it with a pink tissue paper liner. This was a commissioned card and I personalised the insert with the bride and groom's Christian names and the wedding date on the LH leaf and a nice verse on the RH leaf.

The flowers were made with my Nellie Snellen punch, some cut from pink card and some from the K&Company DP.  I added a gemstone to each centre before coating with Glossy Accents.

Male Birthday Card

This card was made for a family member who recently celebrated his 80th birthday.  I always find male cards difficult as most of my stash consists of 'girly' items but this turned out well enough (I hope) and I do like the buttons tied with raffia so will use this idea again.  The inside consisted of a one page insert plus a double page photo-montage which my DH put together using his family history programme.  All edges have been cut using the deckle blade in my trimmer.

Pink and Pastel Country Diary card

I thought I'd have another play about with the free papers and chipboards from my subscription magazine. This little card was quite a quick make and it looks quite sweet. I shall put it into the stock box for now I think. I really must get a new cutter.  I posted a while back about mine misbehaving and should have got on with sorting a new one out then. Another job for the 'To Do' list.

Yellow & Green Easter MSE card

Hello and Happy Monday! Hope your weekend went well and the sunshine found you. We were very lucky and it was warm enough to go out without coats - a sure shine that Spring has sprung.  We'll probably get some snow now!  Today's card has been made to enter the MSE challenge which has been set this time by The Wife and is an Easter card or a Yellow & Green theme - so here's my effort which I made using the free papers and chipboard from May's issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine.

Another card using my favourite things. Card blank is cut using the largest Labels Eight die. Mother's Day cards

Here are the two cards I made this year. I kept them both very simple as I just love the two images and felt they didn't need anything else.  I'm hoping the cards remind our respective Mums of when we were children.

3 Birds, 2 Mamas and 1 Week

One week to make 40 cards that is! I decided to purchase the 3 Birds card-making kit from Create & Craft and use it to make up two gift boxes of blank cards for our Mums for Mothering Sunday. The kit contained enough to make two sets of 20 cards,

Here is one of the sets:

and here are the two boxes which I tied up with matching ribbons:

I thought the kit was quite good value although I would have preferred a heavier weight of card blank. I've certainly never made this amount of cards in such a short space of time (nor likely to again!!).

Hopefully our Mums will be able to make good use of the assorted cards inside.

The Tree

So after seeing a beautiful tree card on a blog a few weeks ago, it reminded me that I had the same (or very similar) stamp. I bought it at least 12 months ago and it hadn't even been out of the packet until yesterday.  I tried to keep this fairly plain and although it wasn't for any particular occasion I've lost it already - my daughter wants it for her good friend who is about to set off travelling soon.

Lovely New Storage

We saw these units in HobbyCraft yesterday and my DH wanted to buy them but I said no, too expensive.  So......  he went out this morning and came back with them anyway!! To be honest, I think he's getting fed up with card-making stuff all over the dining room. Well I shall have to be tidy (well tidier) now.

Quick Makes

Following on from my last post, here are two cards for the 'stock box'.  I shall add an appropriate sentiment and insert as and when needed.  Both were done with card and gems/ribbon from stash so very economical too.  I like this embossing folder but am finding it has a tendency to crease across the bottom edge so have disguised it with score lines and ribbon or gems.  Next time I'll try doing a smaller card so that I can use the folder sideways on through the Cuttlebug which may help with the creasing.

So today I needed to do a card quickly and this is what I came up with. I got the Cuttlebug embossing on the go and then added some gems to the butterflies.  I think it's turned out quite well for a quick make and I'm going to make some more along this theme as I'm trying to get some cards in reserve.

A Little Experiment

This card came about because I wanted to try colouring ordinary white card with promarkers to match my design papers.  This was an idea from Coops   (http://coopsclutteredcorner.blogspot.com/)    that I read in the comments section on Alison's (http://xxxtglxxx.blogspot.com/)  blog.   I started with the lovely floral Pink Petticoat paper and went from there. You can just about see my pink Promarker-ed card behind the DP and the Sentiment. I was also looking for a suitable card to give the Marianne bird die-cut its first airing.

One of Those Cards....

when everything that could go wrong DID go wrong.  I won't bore you with all the details but suffice to say one of the things on my crafty wishlist is a new cutter.  Anyway, I got there in the end but with a few choice words along the way!  Gems and glitter added for sparkle.

I've added a little pocket and tag to write the greeting on. I can't remember on whose blog I first saw this idea (sometime last year) and have been meaning to try it out. I used a Labels Eight Nestie to make the tag.

Black & White Shaped Twisted Easel

So for a total change I've gone for a black and white (with a bit of red) theme today. I've also been playing a bit with shapes and it's turned out fairly well. This little card is for my card-making friend who is celebrating her birthday at the end of this week.

The photos aren't brilliant. I found it hard to get a good shot because of all the mirri card.

I glittered her dress and headband, the parcel ribbon and the little hearts.
